Looking back over the past year, the theme of the year was definitely gratitude. I found myself ever aware of all that I have to be grateful for. What remains at the top of that list and always will, is my family.
Motherhood never ceases to amaze me. Don't get me wrong, it's not all sunshine and rainbows. It's definitely laced with difficulties and uncertainty at times. However, as I watch my kids grow by leaps and bounds each year, I've come to know one thing with great certainty. The time that we have with our kiddo's as kids, is so very short in the grand scheme of things.
In an effort to slow down, and enjoy time together as a family more, we've began actively carving out time each week to do something fun together. Sometimes that's an evening trip out and about, while other times, it's a fun family game night or family movie night. Whatever we do, the focus is fun.

For our family game nights and family movie nights have become a great way to come together and reconnect at the end of a busy week. We've definitely learned to get creative with fun DIY décor and themed snacks too, as it makes it all the more special for the kids. And let's face it, I love any excuse I can find to break out the glue gun!

Craft up some fun DIY décor for your next family movie night with simple supplies! You can make themed décor based on your movie selection, or make some cute décor that you can reuse for your family movie nights.
I made this adorable filled popcorn box garland using simple supplies, and I hang it above our DIY popcorn bar that I set up for the kids.
What you;ll need:
- 6-8 cardboard popcorn boxes,
- ribbon (about 5 ft.)
- cotton balls (8 cotton balls for each box)
- low-temp hot glue gun
- low-temp hot glue sticks
- yellow marker
Color your cotton balls using your yellow markers, open each of the popcorn boxes, use small dots of glue to affix your cotton balls / "popcorn" around the top rim of your popcorn box. Repeat this step until each of your popcorn boxes is complete. Affix your popcorn boxes to ribbon to create your movie theater popcorn box garland. Refer to images below.
For your next family game night, whip up some delicious (and nutritious) themed snacks. We chose our favorite word building game for our last family game night, and these adorable letter tile graham cracker cream cheese sandwich treats. We topped them off with chocolate chips to make them resemble the letter tiles. The kids loved them and they were super simple to put together !
And when the kids challenged the spelling of certain words, it was incredibly convenient to just pull up an online special version dictionary hosted on the game's official website, on my phone.
