My sweet "lulu" circa 2009 |
The holiday season is magical, isn't it? The decorating, the lights, the baking, the crafting with the kids - I love it all. We've been spending a ton of time together over the last few weeks carefully selecting gifts, crafting gifts, and baking. The magic is definitely palpable in the air in our home!
As much as I adore everything about this season, I always keep in mind that this time of year can also be difficult. As a mom, I have a heart for parents and children that are experiencing health challenges during the holiday season. I feel for every parent that is walking through this season with a child battling cancer. Having experienced health issues with my daughter, I can say without hesitation, that it is the single worst feeling to have as a parent. When you can't make it all better for your child and make everything bad disappear, there's a feeling of complete helplessness.
For parents who are feeling that helplessness this holiday season, my UPS #WishesDelivered wish for them, is a cure for all childhood cancer. To see their children speedily restored to health. and back to the business of being a kid. If I could, I would gift health to every child in the world this holiday season. For now, I'll send my wish out into the universe with the hopes that one day it WILL come true, and they'll find a cure.

My "lulu" helping assemble Ugly Quilts for the homeless - November 2015
In the meantime, I will remain in awe of this little girl of mine. She has faced every trial with grace and poise, and most always with a huge smile. The occasional road blocks that life has thrown her way have only served to make her better, and have given her a true heart for others. She's always willing to help in any way she can, without prompting or expectation.
I'm on the edge of my seat with anticipation for what she'll do when she grows up. Great things, I'm sure!

What’s your wish? Perhaps you'd like to make a holiday wish to stamp out childhood hunger in the United States? Or maybe you'd like to share how you or someone that you know is making holiday wishes come true this holiday season, or lending a helping hand to those in need?
In the spirit of the season, UPS wants to celebrate the people in communities across America, that are giving back by doing something good for others. For every wish shared with the #WishesDelivered hashtag on Twitter, Instagram or shared through the #WishesDelivered Site, UPS will make a $1 donation to one of their charity partners (Boys & Girls Club of America, World Food Programme, Toys for Tots Literacy Program, The Salvation Army, or The UN Refugee Agency), up to a 150K total donation. This is such a simple way to help give back to some wonderful charities this holiday season. Simply share your wish for good, or submit your story. It's that easy!
