Chances are, if you have a tween in your house like I do, you've seen the new hit movie Disney's Descendants. If you haven't, what are you waiting for? It's definitely a movie that the entire family can enjoy, and the soundtrack is pretty great too.
We're huge fans of Disney in our house. My daughter especially loves all of story-lines intertwined in Disney's Descendants, so this movie was definitely much anticipated in our home! Although we caught the movie on the Disney Channel when it aired, we also went out and purchased the DVD at Walmart along with the soundtrack. Yes, it was THAT good!
Descendants was the first pick again for our movie night last Friday, so I made some popcorn and treats for the kids and we all sat down to watch together.
My daughter has now proclaimed it to be her absolute favorite! The movie is much like the book, and marries the story-lines of the villains {by way of their children} from Disney favorites including Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Aladdin, and 101 Dalmatians.
We absolutely loved this story of good vs. evil, and of course, that good wins out in the end!
After we watched the movie, my daughter was immediately on the hunt for some Descendants decor for her room. While we found a ton of great back to school fashions and dolls, we couldn't find any decor. So, we decided to make something. Keeping in theme with the Evil Queen and Maleficent {Evie and Mal's mothers in the Descendants} we came up with this easy "Mirror, Mirror" frame quote craft! We simply painted a wooden frame gold {found in the craft section at Walmart} to resemble the Evil Queen's infamous mirror. Next we incorporated Mal and Evie's signature colors from the movie (green & purple + royal blue & silver) to add a little glitz with glitter to our "embrace your innate goodness" printable, before framing it.
What you'll need:
- Wooden Frame (the pictured frame is 8"x 10")
- Gold Metallic Paint (we used Folk Art Metallic multi-surface paint)
- Paint Brush
- Scissors
- Clear Craft Glue Stick
- Glitter in Blue, Silver, Purple, and Green color choices (we picked ours up in a 5 pack for .99 at Walmart)
- Our free "embrace your innate goodness: free Disney Descendants printable (right click to save/print the image below)
How to:
- Remove the glass and backing from your frame.
- Paint your frame using the gold metallic multi-surface paint. We used three coats of paint to achieve our desired gold shine/finish on our frame. Allow adequate time for drying in-between coats.
- Cut your the quote to size.
- Use your glue stick to apply small streaks of glue around the top side of your quote. Sprinkle purple glitter. Allow adequate time for drying. Next apply small streaks of glue just under the purple glitter. Sprinkle your green glitter. Allow adequate time for drying. Next repeat the above steps on the bottom side of your quote (refer to image above of the completed craft) in Evie's signature colors (royal blue & silver). Allow adequate time for drying.
- Frame your finished quote in your completed gold "mirror-mirror" frame.
- Hang and enjoy your completed Disney Descendants DIY room decor!
